Dispensing Prescriptions for a Practitioner or their Family

Physicians Prescribing for Oneself or Family Policy

It is the policy of the North Dakota Board of Medicine to honor and support the statement made by North Dakota Board of Pharmacy in March 2018 entitled dispensing prescriptions for a pracititioner or their family.

Physicians who prescribe for themselves or a family member must make a medical record of the prescription. Additionally, prescribing to oneself or a family member on a regular basis may be considered a pattern of inappropriate care under the disciplinary rules of the board of medicine.
