IMLC Licenses

Initial Application through the IMLC

The North Dakota Board of Medicine participates in the Interstate Medical Licensing Compact (IMLC).  The IMLC is an agreement among participating U.S. states and territories to streamline the licensing process for qualifying physicians who want to practice in multiple states. Interested applicants can review the qualifications and begin the application process through the IMLC website.

Once licensure through the compact is obtained, you will need to fill out the Addendum Questionnaire for Initial Licensure and email it to the Board within 30 days of receiving your license.

Renewal of an IMLC License

Licenses issued through the IMLC must be renewed via the IMLC website. The renewal Addendum Questionnaire for Renewal must also be filled out within 30 days of renewing your license.  Please be aware that failure to fill out the questionnaire within 30 days will result in a $500 penalty fee and potential disciplinary action.  Such disciplinary action would disqualify the physician from participating in the IMLC.  North Dakota licenses expire on a physician's birthdate every two years.

Penalties

Pursuant to N.D.C.C. section 43-17-46, a physician granted a license through the IMLC who fails to complete the addendum questions within 30 days will be assessed a fee up to three times the normal licensure fee and may be subject to disciplinary action.  Note that if disciplinary action is taken, the individual may lose the qualification to obtain further licensure through the IMLC.

Laws

The IMLC is codified in North Dakota Century Code chapter 43-17.4.
