Summary of Physician Assistant Licensure Requirements
To become eligible to practice as a physician assistant in North Dakota, the PA:
- Must provide evidence of completing/graduating from a physician assistant program;
- Must have passed the certifying examination of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants;
- Must provide evidence of current "good standing" with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and;
- A physician assistant with less than four thousand hours of practice must execute a written collaborative agreement under the supervision of a doctor of medicine or osteopathy who practices medicine in North Dakota and who is responsible for the performance of the physician assistant. After four thousand hours, no written agreement is required, but the physician assistant must still collaborate, consult, or refer to the appropriate member of the health care team as indicated by the condition of the patient, the education, experience, and competence of the physician assistant, and the standard of care.
